beach

Walk down our croft to the beautiful beaches.

You can sit and watch the ever changing Kyle from every front window – the clouds, the colours, the mountains (both Ben Hope, the most Northern Munro and Ben Loyal, ‘the queen of the Highlands), the tides, sometimes seals and a wide variety of birds. You can walk for miles from the doorstep out across the Moine (the heathland moor) or walk down our croft to the deserted golden sands. You may be lucky enough to see seals, otters, golden eagles, white tailed eagles or red deer, to name a few.
A hillwalkers, mountaineering, wildlife watchers, cycling and kayaking, paradise – or just to escape from it all. A rare gem in todays world.

The Neighbourhood

We have some of the most beautiful views in the Highlands of Scotland, incredible wildlife, a rich history and a wild remoteness.

“The community of Melness is a community of small crofting townships, comprising of about 70 households (or about 100 houses), stretching for about five miles around the beautiful Kyle of Tongue. Melness Estate extends to some 10,500 acres of generally poor hill grazings and crofts, sloping from Ben Hutig down to the Kyle of Tongue and the Moine. The estate includes a couple of burns, several beautiful beaches, a sheltered harbour and pier, several lochs, a couple of islands, and extensive peatlands.”

Please check our Neighbourhood page for more information and links to local places and walks.
